The purpose of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations, often referred to as PUWER, is to ensure that any equipment provided and used at work is as safe as is reasonably practicable. Some equipment, such as a grinder, comes with inherent risks that cannot be removed, but PUWER requires those risks to be controlled and minimised. It applies to all workplaces in England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

By the end of this course you will have learned about:

  • What is covered by PUWER
  • Hazards and risks
  • Responsibilities
  • The basics of a risk assessment
  • Hierarchy of control measures
  • Maintenance and inspections.
